Employee Intranet Redesign

I led a project team consisting of staff from the public information office and IT to develop a new employee intranet for more than 1,000 city employees. The redesign not only included a new aesthetic design, but also a new navigation structure and increased user functionality.

We moved the intranet from a single-editor system into a content management platform, allowing staff to update their own webpages.

Over the course of a year, we conducted several employee surveys, information sorting tests, navigation testing, site design testing and a naming contest to design the infrastructure of the site and its aesthetic design.

Additionally a fully-developed training and communication plan was implemented to introduce staff to the editing features, as well as prepare employees for the site launch.

A variety of communication mechanisms ensured all employees were informed, including dozens of group presentations, sneak-peek videos, pre-launch e-newsletters and the distribution of promotional souvenirs to mark the launch.
